Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging
(Radiology, Ultrasound, and Upper Airway Scopes)

At Mission Equine, we offer comprehensive diagnostic imaging to pinpoint the source of lameness, respiratory issues, and other performance-limiting problems. Our capabilities include digital radiography, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and endoscopy (gastroscopy and upper airway scopes). When needed, we send images to a boarded radiologist for expert interpretation to ensure accurate diagnoses and treatment planning.

Radiology (Digital X‑ray)

  • High-resolution digital radiographs for joints, bones, and hoof structures.
  • Ideal for identifying fractures, bone remodeling, navicular changes, and shoeing-related problems.
  • Quick acquisition and on-site review allow immediate discussion of findings and next steps.

Ultrasound

  • Dynamic and static musculoskeletal ultrasound for tendons, ligaments, bursae, and muscle injuries.
  • Real-time assessment of lesion extent, fiber pattern, and healing progression—critical for rehab planning.
  • Useful for guiding injections and monitoring response to regenerative therapies.

Endoscopy (Scopes)

  • Standing endoscopy to evaluate the pharynx, larynx, guttural pouches, and dynamic upper airway function.
  • Detects conditions that affect breathing and performance such as dorsal displacement of the soft palate, laryngeal dysfunction, and epiglottic entrapment.
  • Performed during rest or exercise (dynamic/overground scope) when indicated.
  • Gastroscopy evaluates gastric health, including gastric ulcer diagnosis.

How imaging fits into care

  • Imaging is integrated into a full lameness or performance workup, paired with physical exam, gait analysis, and other diagnostics as needed.
  • Timely, accurate imaging guides targeted therapies—whether medical management, regenerative treatments, shockwave, therapeutic shoeing, or referral for advanced imaging (MRI, CT, etc.).
  • We’ll review results with you and outline a clear, individualized plan focused on safe return to activity.
