If Your Horse is Having an Emergency

The team at Mission Equine Associates understands that emergencies can be an unpredictable and stressful time for horse owners. We pride ourselves in being available for ambulatory emergency calls 24/7 for the local horse community. While our clients of record receive a discounted rate for these calls, we are currently available for many non-client calls as well.

If your horse is showing any of the following signs, please contact our team right away:

  • Severe lameness (horse is unwilling or unable to bear weight, hot and/or swollen limbs)
  • Deep cuts, wounds, or lacerations
  • Signs of colic or pain (rolling, pawing, looking at sides, discomfort)
  • Eye injuries or changes in eye appearance
  • Sudden behavior changes (incoordination, depression, aggression)
  • Not eating or drinking or passing feces
  • Reactions to medications or recent procedures, swelling of face or head
  • Signs of respiratory distress or Choke (food particles in nasal discharge, coughing)

If you’re unsure, it’s always better to call early.
We can help you decide the next steps.
